Whether your ambition is to compete at Affilliated Eventing, or to hack safely, learn to ride passage or simply enjoy your horse more, finding the right instructor can be incredibly difficult. We don't all respond to the, "Do it, because I say so" approach!

Looking after horses takes up a whole lot of time and effort, so we owe it ourselves to try and make the most of the time we have.
For me, riding is all about the relationship with the horse, working together because we want to. The feeling when suddenly it all goes right, you just can't beat it! As a general rule, if something feels too difficult, there must be an easier way. Sometimes it is as simple as lifting a rein, 'making space' for the horse to step into. Keeping communication clear so you can both understand what you should be doing.

I started riding when I was six, my parents tell me I was pony mad as soon as I was old enough to have an opinion! From ten onwards, I have been lucky enough to ride for other people. Having the opportunity to ride so many different horses has taught me to deal with a multitude of horse personalities and problems!

I always feel very honoured when someone asks me to ride their horse. Especially those who have been together for many years and have done all the schooling themselves. To be on a horse's back is a privilege, we should always do our best to ride to the best of our abilities.

'My Sweet Audrina' & I, 1992
Over the years there have been occasions where control is not entirely mine...! It is not the most comfortable feeling! Because I know how this feels I find it very easy to understand when the riders confidence slips away. Confidence can take a lifetime to build yet a second to smash.
Hamish & I, July 2007
The most important thing is to be safe, by understanding your horse more and learning new techniques, you can progress your work in a safe, non-stressful manner. Making your time together enjoyable for both you and your horse.
Jules & Siani, January 2008
I love being able to help people to become happy with their horses. To feel safe and confident in whatever they want to achieve. The great big smiles say it all!
